Route & Tulip flowering

How many tulip fields do you see on a helicopter flight?

This depends on the flowering at the time. The pilot always chooses the route where the tulips are blooming most beautifully at that time. With 2,000 hectares of tulips, the Northeast Polder is the largest tulip area in the world.

When do the tulips bloom?

The tulips usually bloom:

  • last two weeks of April
  • first week of May

This may be slightly earlier or later, depending on the weather. Tulips are a natural product, so exact timing remains difficult to predict.

Do I see only colourful tulip fields?

No, you see a mix of:

  • flowering fields
  • green fields (not yet flowering or spent)
  • Fields yet to be sown or planted

This is normal and part of growing tulips in an arable area.

What if the tulips don't bloom (anymore)?

We fly only when the tulips are in bloom. That is our guarantee. If the tulips are not flowering, the flights will not take place.

Do I always see tulip fields in flight?

Yes, during every flight you will see tulip fields. Just keep in mind that not every field is in bloom at the same time.

Is there a fixed flight path?

No, every helicopter flight is unique. We always fly over as many flowering tulip fields in the Northeast Polder.

You can also communicate wishes, such as:

  • fly over your house
  • view a specific location
  • e.g. Unesco World Heritage Schokland aerial view

Helicopter & Flight

Which helicopter will be flown?

We fly an Airbus Helicopter EC120. This is a modern and safe helicopter widely used for passenger flights.

A maximum of four passengers can board each flight, plus the pilot.

How high does the helicopter fly?

During the flight, we usually fly between 150 and 500 metres above the tulip fields.

How fast does the helicopter fly?

The helicopter's cruising speed is around 200 km per hour.

Safety

Is a helicopter flight safe?

Yes, safety is top priority. The helicopter will be:

  • regularly maintained by a certified company
  • checked by the pilot before each flight
What certification does the pilot have?

The pilot holds an Airline Transport Pilot Licence (ATPL-H), the highest certification for helicopter pilots.

How much experience does the pilot have?

The pilot has:

  • almost 20 years of flying experience
  • more than 4700 flying hours
  • extensive experience with commercial flights

Is a helicopter flight suitable for people with mobility problems?

Yes, in many cases a helicopter flight is possible for people with mobility problems. We can help with boarding, especially if you are the first passenger to board after a refuelling moment (several times a day).

Please note that:

  • some support from the passenger or guidance is needed
  • we depend on planning and security
  • we cannot give a guarantee if boarding takes too much time

If in doubt, contact us in advance so we can think about the possibilities.

Is there a weight limit for the helicopter flight?

Yes, there is a weight limit per flight. To ensure safety and balance in the helicopter, we ask passengers heavier than 100 kg to indicate this in advance.

Based on this, we will make an appropriate layout, for example by distributing the weight among the passengers. Please note that:

  • we have a maximum total load per flight
  • we adjust the layout for a safe and comfortable flight

In doubt? Feel free to contact us and we will look at the possibilities together.
