About Tulip Flyway - Local Passion for Flying
Explore the tulip fields of the Northeast Polder from the air with an experienced pilot as guide
From selling tulips by the roadside to flying above the fields
My name is Pieter Veendrick, born and raised in Creil, amid the tulip fields.
As a child, I stood by the roadside with my brothers selling tulips to tourists who drove the famous tulip route of the Tulip Festival Noordoostpolder. We picked the tulips ourselves from the land, made bunches of them and sold them along the road. That was my first introduction to the magic of the tulip fields.
My grandfather was one of the first farmers in the Northeast Polder and started growing tulip bulbs here in the 1960s. Since then, with 2,000 hectares, it has grown into one of the largest tulip areas in the world.
The idea behind the Tulip Flyway
During my helicopter pilot training, I regularly flew over the Northeast Polder. In spring, I watched the landscape transform into a colourful display of tulip fields, something you never experience in the same way from the ground.
That's when I knew: more people need to see this.
Thus the Tulip Flyway was born.
No longer selling tulips at the roadside, but letting people experience how special this area is, from the air.
A small family business, with a big passion
What started as an idea has grown into a true family business.
During flight days, a close-knit team is on hand:
- My partner handles check-in and receives guests
- Helping my brother and cousin as ground crew
- My father makes sure the fuel is always ready
- And at home, grandparents take care of the children and lunch
Together, we make sure everything runs smoothly and you have an extraordinary experience.
You feel that personal commitment in everything; this is not a big organisation, but a family working together with pride.
A colourful Dutch landscape that changes every day
The tulip fields are a product of nature. Every day the landscape looks different. New fields come into bloom, others are cut or harvested.
From the air, the Northeast Polder on a painting, with clean lines and bright colours - a living work of art that is constantly changing.
That's why every flight has a different route. I always fly to the places where the tulips are blooming most beautifully at that time.
